Sky Falconry Visit 10/17/17 What a extraordinary experience! Owners Kirk and Denise delivered a fascinating educational experience about birds of prey. Thoroughly passionate about conservation and helping to protect these beautiful raptors from extinction, they presented an informative demonstration of bird behavioral traits and the many challenges facing these wondrous creatures. Pesticide use, utility poles, wind turbines, and illegal taxidermy trade are some of the greatest threats to their existence. 50% of raptors have been lost in the last 40 years alone. These magnificent birds have a gripping strength in their talons or feet of 450 PSI (pound-force per square inch of pressure). Compare that to a strong human male who has about 75 PSI and you can truly appreciate the remarkable brawn of the raptors. Everyone I spoke to was in awe of what they saw and experienced.
